What is an MPLS Network?
Multiprotocol Label Switching, or “MPLS,” is a network protocol that allows data to be transferred from one network to another. Using an MPLS network has some distinct advantages. It can be used to connect distant nodes to one another, creating networks. Specifically, it can be used to create a Virtual Private Network, or a “VPN.” An MPLS VPN is a popular option for a business that needs to connect multiple remote offices, since it offers efficient connectivity and security. Using an MPLS service can increase connection speed, lower costs, and offer more options than other protocols such as frame relay or ATM. MPLS works by putting a label on each packet of information that needs to get through the network.
