The HMC is the Hardware Management Console for pSeries, which is a new management appliance for configuring and controlling pSeries servers. The HMC user interface is based on the Web-Based System Manager framework, which was originally written for AIX and has now been ported to a Linux base. The HMC user functions run within the Web-Based System Manager framework. This does not mean that users see the standard set of Web-Based System Manager AIX functions on the HMC console itself, but rather that the new HMC hardware management applications are presented in a way that is consistent and integrated with AIX management.
