What is BLS Certification?
BLS, or Basic Life Support certification is an entry-level certification that tells prospective employers that you can provide the most basic level of life support in case of a patient’s accident or emergency situation. Who Gets BLS Certification? Generally, anyone looking to enter into the health care field–whether your ambitions are to be a physician or just to work in a hospital with occasional patient contact–are required to have BLS certification. Medical students, certified nursing assistants, emergency medical technicians, even patient transporters are required to get certification. Those in other medical settings–dental offices, nursing homes–are also often expected to have BLS certification. Emergency personnel–firemen and policemen–are also expected to know basic life support. Also, there are no prerequisites to getting BLS certification.
