What are Therians & Otherkin?
“Therian” and “Otherkin” are both names people use to describe themselves when they feel they have some kind of affinity with or aspect of a particular animal. Therian is used for “real” animals, like you can find in the wild, in a zoo, or in a museum. Otherkin is used more for mythological animals, or legendary ones, and is a bit more complicated and not as well defined as Therian. To simplify things, I’ll be using just the word “Therian” below. There are basically four categories of Therians: A Therian can be someone with a strong affinity for a particular animal, a kind of magnetic draw to the species and a sympathy for them and love of them. This does not mean that they have some kind of romantic infatuation with the animal, or anything of that sort.
