Why IRI for early childhood development?
Nepalese children suffer from extremely difficult circumstances that put them at tremendous risk starting with conception and continuing throughout their lives. IRI for ECD represents one vehicle for reaching both Nepalese children and their adult caregivers with information that can improve the children’s chances of survival, enrich their lives and increase their likelihood of succeeding once they enter primary school. IRI/ECD programs are developed with the intention that adult caregivers in homes and formal settings will listen to the programs and take the children through guided activities. The dual audience approach allows for the inclusion of childcare messages about topics such as health, hygiene and safety to provide caregivers with opportunity to learn by doing while children participate in fun and developmentally appropriate activities.
