What is Mole Removal?
Mole removal can be done in several ways. The three main types of mole removal are shave excision removal technique with stitches, excision removal technique with cauterization, or laser treatment. • Shave excision technique with stitches: This is done with moles that extend beyond the skin area and protrude from the skin. During this procedure, the mole is cut out from the skin then stitched up. • Excision biopsy technique with cauterization: This is done with moles which are flat on the skin or which may be suspected as melanoma. During this procedure, the mole is cut so that it is even with the skin. The area is then cauterized to halt any bleeding. Antibiotic ointment is then rubbed onto the area to prevent infection. • Laser treatment: With laser treatment, there is no need for cutting or stitching.
