Can coyotes jump fences or walls?
Yes, Coyotes use their front paws on the top of a fence and use their hind legs to propel them over the barrier. So if you have a yard you can put a wire apron firmly attached to the bottom of the fence. Your fence should be at least 5 to 6 feet tall and made of brick, cement blocks, wood or net-wire is recommended. Add extenders to the top of the fence that extend outward 15 to 20″ to prevent the coyote from climbing the fence. Or you can use coyote rollers at along the top of the fence that keep coyotes and other wildlife from gripping the top of the fence to climb the fence. Coyotes are good diggers and often will dig under fences. To prevent digging, securely attach a wire 4 to 6 foot wire apron to the bottom of the fence to prevent coyotes from digging under. Electric fences can also be used to prevent coyote intrusion. Electric trip wires can also be used at the base of the fence or a foot or two out to also prevent digging.
