What is OGC doing about food safety?
Organically Grown Company has taken a leading role in advocating for the development and implementation of effective on farm food safety practices. The company implemented Good Manufacturing Practices (“GMP”) to insure the proper handling of food products and is subject to independent quality assurance audits conducted by Primus Laboratories. We are actively working with growers on the farm level to support education about food safety. On November 5, 2009, we hosted a Pacific Northwest Organic Produce Food Safety Summit. We convened 110 people from the organic food industry including growers, distributors, food scientists and industry leaders. On March 2, 2010, food safety extension specialists from Washington State University conducted a follow up session with our growers to provide them with practical tools and ideas they can apply on their farms.
