How Does a Downdraft Range Vent?
Activating the Down Draft Feature Press on the small button on top of the range vent to raise it and activate ventilation. Some stoves with the down draft feature automatically raise the draft from its base when the electricity or gas is engaged or the burner is lit and retract when the range temperature lowers. Most others feature the standard manual engagement and retraction button or the option of a remote wall switch control. How the Vent Works The vent unit sucks in smoke, fumes, steam and aerosol cooking grease into its unit through and through the grease filter by the power of a blower unit mounted near the vent. Typically the blower unit is located in the cupboard below the range or under the floor boards beneath the range to save cupboard space and muffle sound.
