How Do You Use The Elodea Plant?
Elodea, also known as Canadian or American Waterweed or Anarchis, is a well- known water plant used in freshwater aquariums. If you asked someone to draw a classic aquarium plant simply from memory, Elodea is what it would resemble. Elodea grows entirely submerged under water, with the exception of tiny white flowers that bloom on long thin stems on the surface of the water once a year. Elodea’s several varietals are native to freshwater. Introduce Elodea to lake and pond ecosystems to provide habitat for invertebrates and safe harbor for small or young fish and amphibians. Ducks, beavers and muskrats eat Elodea. Propagate and harvest Elodea as a sales crop to aquarium suppliers. In the fall Elodea stalks come loose from their moorings and re-establish themselves elsewhere as new plants. A rich, silty bed is ideal for their growth. Anchor Elodea on the floor of a freshwater aquarium to create a tall, decorative accent in the tank and a habitat for fish and other creatures living in the
