Who attends KIPP schools?
KIPP opens schools in underserved communities, many of them with a high population of students of color. Because KIPP schools represent the communities they serve, approximately 95 percent of KIPP students are African American and Latino. The particular demographics vary for school to school. At the KIPP school in San Lorenzo, California, for instance, there are over 30 languages spoken by a diverse student body, while KIPP schools in Helena, Arkansas, and Gaston, North Carolina, enroll larger numbers of white students. We believe the quality education that our students receive will greatly determine the opportunities they have to participate in a multicultural society.
