How big is UW-Madison?
Some prospective students and their parents express concern about the size of the UW-Madison campus and the College of Engineering. The enrollment on campus is about 40,000 students, but many students feel this is a great advantage because of the diversity of the student body and the endless opportunities available to students. The College of Engineering has an undergraduate enrollment of only about 3200 students (not much larger than some high schools). Some of our smaller degrees, such as Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, have enrollments of fewer than 70 students. A campus of this size offers the advantage of a large variety of courses (over 4000). While some classes have large enrollments, fewer than 1% have over 100 students.
