How Do You Make A King Cole Cocktail?
A King Cole cocktail is a classic rye whiskey-based drink that is similar to many whiskey cocktails invented in the early 20th century, primarily between 1900 and 1925. The King Cole follows the formula of the era: combining rye whiskey with something sweet, simple syrup and grenadine syrup in this case, and something sour, Fernet Branca. Traditionally the King Cole is served in a chilled cocktail glass with a lemon peel for garnish, but you can also serve the drink in a highball glass half-filled with crushed ice and soda water for a summer treat. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add the rye whiskey, simple syrup, grenadine syrup and Fernet Branca to the cocktail shaker. Cover the cocktail shaker and shake gently for 10 to 15 seconds. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish the glass with a twisted lemon peel and serve immediately while ice cold.
