Are Black Newspapers Racist?
A commentary by Dante Lee – the founder and president of BlackNews.com Long Beach, CA – Far too often, I’m contacted by Caucasian individuals who firmly believe that Black news mediums are racist. They insist that the world would never go for a “WhiteNews.com”, or a “White Entertainment Television”, or even a “White Enterprise Magazine”. In most cases, these individuals are highly upset and are offended by what they call reverse discrimination – that is, retaliation from Blacks in response to what we experienced in the past. They conclude that we are attempting to exclude whites from our publications only because we were once excluded. Fairly recently, one of my African-American friends surprisingly expressed the same opinion. She too concluded that Caucasions are correct, and that Blacks should not segregate themselves by means of Black newspapers, Black news television, etc. She insisted that this only encourages racism and discrimination.
