Orangethorpe Learning Center opened its doors on February 14, 1995, as a ministry of Orangethorpe Christian Church, and Orangethorpe and Cornerstone United Methodist Churches, in service to the families of the Southwest Fullerton area. Its opening was the result of more than a year of research and one-to-one conversations between members of our Churches and parents, children, teachers, principals and local police and government officials. This research disclosed: • There was a great turnover of children at the schools in our neighborhood; many of the students who begin the school year at Orangethorpe School will have moved away by June and their places would be taken by new arrivals. • There continued to be gang activity in the Baker Street area. • Many of the children who attended local schools came from families where English wasn’t spoken in the home. In fact, more than a dozen different linguistic heritages were represented at the schools within less than a mile of our Churches. •
