How Do You Plant Viola Aalsmeers?
Violas of the “Roem van Aalsmeers” variety produce flowers up to 2 inches across. As an annual, the large plant must be replaced with new plants every spring. Violas grow best in cool, moist, well-drained soil and can be planted in sunny or partially shaded spots. Plant them amid any other flowers and even among vegetables. Pick a location to plant your Viola Aalsmeers and dig the soil about 3 inches deep. Improve rocky or clay soil by mixing in potting soil. Plant your violas in late March or any time in April. Remove the Viola Aalsmeers from their plastic beds or pots and place in the soil no deeper than they were in their original pots, usually about 3 inches. Space the plants 3 to 4 inches apart, so that the flowers have room to spread out. Press the soil in around them firmly. Water the newly planted Viola Aalsmeers to the point of saturation. If you are going to use fertilizer, add it before watering and then wash any bits of fertilizer off of the viola’s leaves and stems. Violas
