How common is Ebola?
Ebola typically appears in sporadic outbreaks and is usually spread within a medical care setting. After the initial outbreaks in Sudan and Zaire in the late 1970s, the virus reappeared in the late 1990s and continues to cause outbreaks in western and central Africa. An Ebola strain that appears to harm only nonhuman primates has since been found in several quarantine facilities worldwide.
