He was one of those kids who did not excel in school. Instead while in the class room he would doodle and let him imagination run wild. His creative side came from his father Homer Phillip Groening who was a writer, advertiser, filmmaker, and of course cartoonist. This would all lead him to leaving Portland at the age of twenty-three and trying his luck in the City of Angels.
