What is a funnel project?
A funnel project is a group of libraries (or catalogers from various libraries) that have joined together to contribute authority records to the LC-NACO authority file. Funnel participants usually work in the same subject area, such as the NACO Music Project, Art NACO, African American Subject Funnel Project, or they may be regionally based, like the North Dakota Funnel. There are also language based groups, such as CJK NACO and NACO Hebraica. Funnel projects are an efficient means of contribution, where one person or institution coordinates the project. There may be members at all levels of expertise; however, LC deals solely with the coordinator. • Who may join CJK NACO? Anyone who catalogs CJK languages may apply. Institutions are invited to join the Project on a voluntary basis. Lone librarians working with relatively small CJK collections are especially encouraged to participate. It is essential to have your institution’s support and commitment to the project.
