What are receiving modes?
A receiving mode is a setting that changes the way your Panasonic fax machine responds to incoming phone calls and faxes. In the units that have a Jog Dial and no built-in answering machine, you can use an external answering machine in any receive mode. Plug the answering machine into the Ext.Tel port in the back of the fax machine, and make sure the ring count of the answering machine is lower than the ring count of the fax machine (press Menu, then turn the jog dial until you see ring count, and press Start you can then change the ring count of the fax machine).
