What is Wake on LAN* (WOL)?

0

Wake on LAN provides the server with the capability to go into a sleep mode and “wake up” when it senses network activity. This is a desirable feature for any server, as servers should never be shut down. WOL is a component of Intel’s Wired for Management (WFM) Initiative. To enable WOL on the E8000 server board, your power supply must support 0.8A of +5v standby current which powers the baseboard management controller (BMC) when the server is in a powered-down state. The BMC is the “brains” behind all of the server management features on the E8000 server board, including making WOL work. If your power supply does not have these power requirements, the WOL “enable” jumper must be placed in the “disabled” position or the system will not boot. For further details on the Wired for Management Initiative, go to: http://www.intel.com/ial/wfm/index.htm.
