Does sparkling wine go off?
It can go off. If the wine has been laying on the side and the cork has been kept moist then it will not dry out and let air in. If it has all been kept upright then there is a chance air has entered and the wine has gone flat, or worse, gone bad. It also helps if the wine has been kept at a constant temperature. Low alcohol wines less than 11% or so don’t keep long. They are meant for drinking within a few months of bottling. If they are 11% or more then they last longer. If the wines have been kept upright have 12 -12.5% alcohol or more and are less than 10 years old then you are fairly safe to give them away. Older than that I would open the oldest and check to see if there is any fizz. If not open the next oldest etc.
