Is TB a food safety issue?
No. For several reasons, bovine tuberculosis (TB) does not impact food safety. First, the bacteria that cause bovine TB are not present in muscle meat. Second, meat inspectors examine all cattle entering the marketplace for signs of the disease before and after slaughter. Any animals showing signs of TB are withheld from the food supply. Third, bovine TB bacteria cannot survive proper cooking.
