What is TVT SECUR?
TVT SECUR (or TVTS for short) is the latest development in the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) which is the involuntary leakage of urine on exertion, such as coughing, laughing, exercising, etc. The current standard operation for SUI is the TVT (see separate page). TVTS is a modification of the standard TVT procedure. Like the standard TVT, the TVT SECUR tape is a sling which is put in the same place, i.e. beneath the urethra. It is pushed in through a small cut in the the vagina rather than being threaded through behind the pubic bone like the standard TVT. The tape is much shorter than the standard TVT. As a result of this design, it can be inserted using local anaesthetic only. Furthermore, there is less trauma to the tissues.
