Why did people start to live in Fiji?

Hey! I’m from Fiji. Well it is said that the first people to arrive in Fiji were polynesians and settled in the east or something near there. Then the melanesians came in from the west. Eventually the two people and cultures mixed together and became the Fijians that we know of today. Then later on Europeans began to come to Fiji to get beach deemer and sandalwood. I think some of these Europeans might have been convicts. Anyway sometime in the 1800s an American man’s house in Fiji burnt down and apparently some Fijians might have taken items from the house before it happened. So America kind of threatened Fiji or did something to the effect because of the house burning down. So what happened was that one of Fiji’s high chiefs- Ratu Seru Cakobau, ceded or gave Fiji to Britain. Because of this alot of British people came over to Fiji to run the new colony. Later on they brought over the Indians to plant & grow sugarcane. This was probably because the Fijians didn’t know how to do this.
