Who can apply for SHC housing?
To be eligible for SHC housing, a prospective tenant must • be living with mental illness • be a permanent resident of Canada or a refugee claimant. This includes Canadian citizens, landed immigrants, refugees and other people allowed to reside permanently in Canada. • be over 16 years of age • have a source of income and need rent-geared-to-income housing • not be a former resident of fully or partially funded provincial rent-geared-to-income housing who owes rent money unless the debt is paid in full or the creditor agrees to waive payment, accept partial payment or accept an agreement to pay • be able to live independently with or without support services • be a resident of Ontario and not have a place of residence elsewhere.
