The Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza are an important historical site and a popular destination for travelers. Located just 75 miles east of Merida, the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan, the ruins are easy to reach. Although most of the former building sites are now mounds, more than 30 buildings still stand. The site features more than 100 formerly paved roads.
