Carboloading is much more than eating pasta the night before, involving depletion workouts, etc. I wouldn’t worry about it for your first marathon. Here’s a clue: You’re not going to win regardless of what you eat or don’t eat this week. That said, the important thing is to stick with food that you know won’t give you intestinal issues on race day. NOTHING NEW OR EXOTIC!!!! If you’ve done your mileage, you know from morning runs that having some things for dinner make you sluggish the next day. Avoid those things. Typically something like pasta works for most people. For me, I always have a footlong Subway Spicy Italian with Sun chips, Gatorade, and a couple of Old Milwaukee NA’s (non-alcoholic beer). It may not be the best prerace meal, but it is high in carbs, and doesn’t react badly with my digestive system, and most important, I can get it pretty much anywhere I’m racing (for out of town races).
