Whats a typical REU like?
The typical math REU involves six to ten undergraduates who come together at the REU site (a college or university) to do mathematical research. Usually, the program lasts eight weeks, but some REUs go as long as ten weeks. Sometimes students work alone (with a faculty advisor) on a research problem, but often they work in small teams. Students spend a lot of time together, for they often share office space and are almost always housed near each other (in a university dorm or apartment complex). REUs in other disciplines often have similar setups.
