Why using UTM Map Coordinates?

0

There are many practical reasons for using UTM Map coordinates. But first, what would be the alternative for referring to a position? Geographical Coordinates in form of Longitude and Latitude could be the first choice, as they are uniquely defining the location of any point on the surface on Earth with no need for Mapping Zones and without any distortion. But, it is not easy to work with these coordinates in daily, local projects, where we are using tape measures for distances and relative angles to locate points relative to each other (eg. the corners of a building). Here surface coordinates given in meters, centimeters and millimeters are more useful.
