Why is UWGLA focusing on poverty?
Because Los Angeles is facing a social and economic crisis that affects us all. Decades of growth and prosperity have made L.A. County into a dynamic and diverse region, but in the last ten years, our economy has slowed enormously. We have become a community of “haves” and “have-nots.” • More people live on the streets in L.A. than in any other city in the nation. • Only 60% of our students graduate from high school on time. • Nearly a third of our full-time workers earn less than $25,000 per year.
