PLA is not really a very good plastic. For example, it imparts an off-taste to the water in water bottles; it melts when used for hot liquid applications such as soup spoons; it’s weak, and therefore items made from it have to be thick and heavy; it has a short shelf life; and it often starts to decay before use, while still on the shelf.
