How Do You Grow Patty Pan Summer Squash?
Patty Pan is a delicious little summer squash that is no only attractive in the garden, it has a distinct nutty flavor that sets it apart from ordinary summer squash. This fruit is best picked when it is young and is just the right size for a a light lunch or as a side dish with the evening meal. Choose a location for your summer squash that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Prepare the soil by tilling to a depth of 8 to 10 inches. Remove any roots, rocks, or other debris that has surfaced by raking the area smooth with a garden rake. Mark rows with the edge of the garden hoe or create 2-foot by 3-foot hills of mounded soil for the hill method. Add plenty of well rotted manure or compost and work it into the existing soil. If you choose to use commercial fertilizer, add it now. Be sure to work it into the soil well to prevent burning new roots. Direct seed Patty Pan right in the garden after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. They will germinat
