In both cases, peat moss serves the same purpose of creating a healthier lawn. Take a sample of your soil to an expert to find out its pH level. Peat moss is acidic, so adding it to soil that is already acidic will make matters worse. On the other hand, peat moss is a great addition to lawns that have a high amount of clay, or soil that is sandy. Add the recommended amount of peat moss and fertilizer to the lawn. Use a rake to clear the area of rocks, grass and other debris. Level the area with a shovel or other tool where the peat moss is to be installed. Make the surface as even as you can. Distribute two inches of peat moss on top of the soil. Turn over the soil with a rototiller. Mix t
