Can A Porpoise Talk?
Porpoise is not a fish but a mammal. It belongs to the order of whales. Like other mammals, it nurses the young with its milk and like the whale, the porpoise breathes through a “blow-hole”. Blow-hole is a single nostril located on top of the head. When the porpoise comes to the surface, it opens this nostril and takes in air. The strange thing about porpoises is that they have actually been known to imitate human speech and they would do this on their own accord. As example there was a case at the marine studios in Florida a porpoise suddenly imitated a man’s voice. It did so well that the man’s wife, who was nearby, began to laugh. So the porpoise imitated the sound of her laughter. There is something about the structure of the porpoise’s vocal cords that enables it to make sounds like a human.
