Ask most any kid and they’ll tell you who their hero is. Most likely that very same hero is a member (whether they want to be or not) of the pop culture, well, culture. Even many young adults would subscribe to the idea that they too would like to be a member of the pop culture machine (even if it means that they will lose their individual identity). The point is, many Americans would enjoy being a driving force in what is considered “popular.” Perhaps this is based on the common emotional need to be accepted by the masses.
