How Do You Make Sugar Cane Syrup?
Because sugar cane syrup is made from raw sugar cane, it is sweeter than processed white sugar. It adds a pure, sweet taste to anything. Sugar cane is produced in the southern United States in places like Florida and Louisiana. If you can obtain fresh sugar cane, making your own syrup can be done with a reasonable amount of difficultly if one has the right materials. To remove the juice from the sugar cane, bend it in the middle with the metal rod and empty the juice into a bucket. Pour the juice into the pot and bring to a steady boil. The juice should be about 210 degrees. Foam will start to form on the top of the juice. When the juice begins to boil over the top of the foam, use the slotted spoon to remove the dregs (small bits of the cane), and let the remainder of the dregs flow to the outer lip/ring of the pot. Let the juice boil until it begins to pop up in a syrup-like form. This may take up to eight hours for a few gallons of syrup. Continue to remove dregs with the slotted sp
