What Is Rosaceae?

0

The Rosaceae better known as rose family basically is a huge family of plants, with approximately 3,000-4,000 species in nearly 100-120 genuses. Customarily it has been distributed into a total of four subfamilies which are, Rosoideae, Spiraeoideae, Maloideae and Amygdaloideae. Generally these subfamilies are identified by the arrangement of their fruits, but this method is not followed unanimously. Recent research reports have shown that the conventional four subfamilies are not all monophyletic. The subfamily Rosoideae, is generally made up of those genus bearing small fruits, each of them is an achene or drupelet, and normally the fleshy section of the fruit is the hypanthium or the stalk which has the carpels. The circumscription has been lessened but till date remains a varied group comprising of five or six tribes and twenty more species.
