How do you cut up a Mango?
Slicing a mango can be a daunting job. This tropical fruit doesn’t look hostile, but wait til you try and cut one up! You get to that monstrous, seed that looks like flattened Nerf football, and wham – screeching halt! My previous experience was “How to mangle a mango,” until I learned how to do it – so here goes. A mango (delicious redish green fruit) needs to be ripe – soft. If you roll one on the counter you will notice it has 2 flat sides. Let it come to rest and pick it up, one flat side in the palm of your hand, the other, facing up at the ceiling. With your free hand, find the center on the SIDE of the fruit, then bring the knife upward just a bit, until it’s resting just above the center. The knife will be parallel with your hand holding the fruit. Slice into the fruit sideways, and you will quickly feel the seed with your knife. This seed is very flat, so wiggle and raise the knife slightly, just enough to continue slicing all the way through. Ok, turn it over, flat side down
