Are We Living in a Desert of Sin?
Each chapter of Exodus detailing the plight of the Israelites, God’s chosen people, represents not only a significant moment in the lives of that generation but is also a metaphor for the stages of Christian development. Following that premise, we should be wary of the consequences of living in “The Desert of Sin” (Ex Ch 16). What are the characteristics of a “Desert of Sin”? 1. Ignorance of their deliverance. The Israelites are blind to the presence of the Lord’s grace and salvation. Despite having been saved from their life of servility under the Egyptians, they find themselves in a barren place without food or water and do not like it. How does this apply today? Even though we have been saved by the sacrifice Jesus made, we often prefer to go our own way and ignore our own salvation.
