Are child beauty pageants bad?

I think that child beauty pageants are not that bad actually. It’s just another competition like football or basketball. it’s definetly unique, but we have to respect the way other people think about these types of contests. It may be different, but it’s enjoyable for lots of people.

No and Yes. I believe beauty pageants for teens or children can be a good thing. Some of them really help out in life with social skills, interview skills, etc. Lifelong friendships are developed at these pageants. I have a toddler that I put in pageants. We rarely do them but she is always telling me she wants to go to a pageant again. We try to do the ones where EVERY child is a winner(they all receive some type of crown, gift and trophy.) My daughter feels on top of the world and so proud when she gets these. Now for th yes side, these pageants can be taken too far as any sport, activity, etc can. ex. Look at some of the little league parents. I think it is ridiculous when parents load their toddler’s face down with make up, put on wigs, fake teeth, etc. Let your child be a child and be themselves. Always tell them they are beautiful and boost their self esteems. Let them know you love them!!!

I have organized children’s beauty pagaents in the past, and I have never seen any behavior that is anywhere close to the stuff they are showing on a current TV show. The shows I arranged were for charity, and not the National competitions, so that might explain part of it, but those people get paid to act like that on TV. I don’t see how they are much different from the kiddy sports games or the spelling bees and science competitions that kids are encouraged to be in.
