What is the Drive to Excellence?
The Drive to Excellence is a state-government reform initiative that focuses on serving citizens better: Increasing quality in government, increasing customer service in government and reducing costs in government. It is reform of the “infrastructure” of state government: transactions with citizens, businesses and other governments; management of state assets and business processes; and the human and technological systems that make it all possible. The over-arching objective is to encourage government to act together as an enterprise, rather than as a loose confederation of somewhat independent agencies, on those matters that they have in common. Drive to Excellence seeks to identify common processes across government that can be improved with common solutions, such as standardized computers or a universal system for managing the state’s 5,000-plus buildings.
