Budgerigars or “budgies” are small parakeet-like birds that make excellent pets. They are lively yet relatively easy to care for. While not all budgies talk, many do, and some have a vocabulary of over 100 words. A budgie requires some daily maintenance, but if you have a small apartment, it may be the perfect pet for you. Purchase a cage large enough for the budgie. Make sure the wires on the cage are close enough that the bird can’t get his head through them. Also make sure the cage is large enough for a budgie. Buy wooden perches for the budgie cage. If you can, get different size perches so the budgie can get some varied leg exercises. Also buy a feeder, waterer, cuttle bone, mineral block and quality budgie food. Don’t forget to get your budgie some toys too. Pick out a budgie. Try to find a young one that is finger trained.
