What are the origins of the CPLS?
• Completion of the Alberta Recreation Industry Labour Market Project in mid-2005 led to recommendations for the development of three career strategies: • A Career Awareness Strategy, aimed at making persons entering the labour force aware of career opportunities available within the recreation industry. • A Career Preparation Strategy, consisting of post-secondary education programs designed to prepare people to enter the recreation industry workforce. • A Career Development Strategy, consisting of a variety of opportunities for those already working in the recreation industry to upgrade skills and knowledge. • The CPLS is the first component of the Career Development Strategy. • The major reports from the Alberta Recreation Industry Labour Market Project and, in particular, the Overview Report outlining the three strategies – can be found on the ARPA website (www.arpaonline.ca).
