What is the Grief & Loss Workbook?

This workbook was originally created by three of Bethesda’s Parish Ministry Consultants, Deaconess Crystal Bower, Deaconess Jeanne Dicke, and Stacey Stoppenhagen, as a tool to help Stacey, a 33-year-old woman with Down syndrome, work through the sudden death of her mother, Kay. Deaconess Bower and Deaconess Dicke each read as much as they could about helping people with developmental disabilities deal with grief. They decided on a basic outline of the workbook and, with Stacey’s help, completed the book. This workbook is a special place for a person to write down thoughts, create pictures and reflect on scripture in order to more fully accept and understand the death of a loved one. After seeing how well the book worked for Stacey, Bethesda’s Parish Ministry Consultants, asked her if they could share her style of workbook with others.
