Webster’s Deluxe Unabridged Dictionary has five definitions of the word snifter. It can refer to a small sniff. It can also be the plural rendering for a catarrhal (fever) stoppage of the nostrils, or a slang reference to a small drink of liquor. It can be a dialect word for a blizzard. Ot it can be a liquor glass that tapers to a small opening to concentrate the aroma. Clearly, the meaning most used is the last one.
