What is the role of CAMPO?
The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), formerly Austin Transportation Study (ATS), established in 1973, is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Austin metropolitan area. The purpose of CAMPO is to coordinate regional transportation planning with the State of Texas, Travis, Hays and Williamson Counties, nineteen cities, and the Capitol Metropolitan Transportation Authority and to approve the use of federal transportation funds within the Austin metropolitan area.
