Vivariums are enclosures that contain both live animals and plants. They are becoming very popular lately. If you are considering creating a desert vivarium, now is your chance. However, before you rush out and buy a new pet, you will need to set up the vivarium and have it going for several days to ensure that the proper temperature is being maintained. Choose a good quality container. Typically, this will be a large aquarium. Since you are creating a desert terrarium, it is a good idea to purchase a tight fitting screen cover for the vivarium. Add a background if desired. This will help create a more natural looking environment. Add substrate. This should be good quality sand with perhaps a few areas of smooth rock.
