How Do You Care For Costume Wigs?
Besides being typically bolder in style and color, costume wigs differ from everyday wigs in that they are usually constructed of synthetic hair fibers rather than human hair. The care regimen for a synthetic wig is different than that of a human-hair wig. Proper care and maintenance, using the right tools, will extend the wig’s life span. Lay tangled wig on a flat surface such as a tabletop. Separate wig fibers into sections, using hair clips, so you can work on the hair one section at a time. Hold the wig fibers flat with one hand while gently working out the tangles with the hair pick or comb. Start by combing the very bottom of the hair section, gradually working toward the top. Work as gently as possible, to avoid removing hair from the wefts. Remove difficult knots or tangles by hand instead of tugging with the comb, to prevent damaging the fibers.
