What Does Ordinal Mean?
The word ordinal is defined as a scale of measurement in which the data are arranged in a rank order. When something is ordinal, it pertains to a small or specific picture. Ordinal is the opposite of cardinal. In this context, it means receptive. The positive pole (or extreme) is responsiveness and the negative pole (or extreme) is passivity. In mathematics, ordinal numbers refer to the adjectives that indicate position or rank, namely first, second, third, etc. In statistics, the word ordinal refers to a classification of groups of data which are arranged according to the underlying continuum, that is, which go from the larger group of data to the smaller group of data. The differences between the ranks, however, may not be equal. It refers to those elements which are still ordered, but the spacing between them is not necessarily uniform.
